Anyone any helpful hints and tips to get my cat to stop using his litter tray. Im trying to get him to go outside more but he is still a bit apprehensive .... poor thing but at the same time Im trying to banish the litter tray.

Ive put it outside in the back garden whilst he plays there and I have seen him use it but I need to go to the next level!

HELP!!!

What I usually do is sprinkle some used litter on the spot in the garden I would like them to use.

In time he will stop using his tray when he is more sure of going outside, soon as he is outside a lot more I would just remove the tray and he will soon learn.
I found by digging over soil and making it nice and fresh the cats instantly homed in on it - as they still do whenever I try to do a bit of gardening and head straight for the new plants I've just put in!
Both my cats are 9 years old, and this year have been terrorised by a stray, so started toileting indoors again after all this time, so I had to bring the litter tray back! But slowly I've managed to persuade them back out by spending more time outside with them, and gradually building their confidence again. I find by digging over patches of soil with big plants growing around them gives them a bit of cover so they feel less exposed and more amenable to using the garden to toilet in too.
I just moved the litter tray outside and gradually put it where I wanted them to go, then dug over the ground for them and they're fine now. Only problem is you have to remember the litter tray if it rains!
