I think it was the "Righteous Brothers"
erasure? right said fred?
Believe it or not, the first hit version of this evergreen was crooned by Radio Two's Jimmy Young, who hit the charts in 1955, and again in 1964. Other versions includeLes Baxter in 1955, Al Hibbler the same year, reaching numbers 10 and 2 respectively, and Liberace, again in the same year, when he managed a Number 20.The Righteous Brothers made their definitive version in 1965, topping the charts again in 1990 with a re-release, before Robson and Jerome proved beyond doubt that it really is the song not the singer, when they got to Number One in 1995, a theory proved resoundingly true when Gareth Gates hit the top slot once again with the same song.
