i m a non smoker and hubby is a smoker and i feel that there should be pubs you can smoke in and pubs that you cant.i think the only way to see the difference in not allowing smoking is to boycott pubs and clubs and just see if landlords etc will notice the difference financially.i think a total ban is silly

but surely everything in moderation can't hurt anyone.wrap us all up in cotton wool.life in general is a gamble surely.i do think it is good that we can talk about things without it getting too heated.
I'm a smoker and I completely agree with you Joko.

Call it a contradiction as a smoker!

I don't agree it should be banned outside though but fag ends shouldn't be allowed to be dumped everywhere. There should be a fine for that. I get so angry when I see people drop litter and fag ends are exactly the same.

The ban is not silly.....It is an attempt to increase the chance of smokers quitting (because they wont have a choice).
I am a smoker but have some sympathy for non smokers everyone has a right to live as they want in the pub I go to some of the staff smoke and some dont but the majority do personally I never smoke when other people are eating us smokers have created our own area for smoking and the landlord has put up a notice saying that this area has been created voluntary for smokers by smokers so any non smokers can see that this is a smoking area and it is well away from the non smoking areas surly it would of been a much better idea if more landlords etc did much the same then everyone could enjoy themselves in the way they wanted to without bothering others and there wouldnt bee a need for stupid laws like the no smoking law
smoking areas?

smoke can't read and doesn't know where it can and can't go - smoke spreads across whole areas, it doesn't stop or stay over one side.

it is better than nothing but it doesn't solve the problem of smoke filled rooms.

if it worked then the ban may never have happened.

I think if landlords weren't selfish and had installed air con years ago - and actually switched it on! - there may never have been an issue of banning... but they didn't.

the amount of pubs i have been in that switch it off - either to save money or for some because people drink more when its smokey - is ridiculous.
