Cats digging newly laid lawns

My boyfriend laid a new lawn in my garden on Saturday, it's my pride and joy and looks lovely, I water it at every given opportunity. This morning I went out to water it, to my shock horror, something had dug a 5cm by 5cm hole in it, I have 3 mischevous cats so it must be one of them, how do I stop them doing it again?
