Hi All
I wormed Ollie on Saturday morning, a few hours later he was sick (alot) and had very bad diarrhea, this lasted til Sunday and then he started going off his food. He seems to be getting better now and his appetite returned this morning when he saw my toast!! but he has never had this reaction before, and ive always used the same tablets. My friend said they sometimes have this reaction if they had worms quite badly. Is this right?

What were the tablets you used? Did you get them from the vet?
my parents had an Irish Setter that reacted like that to some worming tabs given to them by the vet. So the vet gave them some others to try instead.

as Kita1 asked, what tabs did you use?

Often the worming tabs where you have to half starve the dog first, give reactions like that. I personally use Drontal as the my dogs can have them with food and it doesn't cause any reaction. They are also chicken flavoured so they are happy to eat them as they are and I don't have to disguise them.

It's odd that your boy suddenly had a reaction when he hasn't had before but I guess with loads of stuff you can suddenly have a reaction to something. He didn't eat anything he shouldn't have on his walkies that may have upset his stomach and coincided with his worming treatment by accident?

Hiya
Thanks for your answers.
I cant remember the name now cause im at work, Ill have a check when I get home. He has all of sudden started eating grass on his walks, and I mean lots of it, I try to stop him but he just wolfs it down as if its his last supper then throws it up (ive know this is common in dogs but he never used to do it)! Anyway just so you know, he is absolutely fine now, back to his old self and eating properly. Ill have a word with the vet next time theyre due and see what he suggests.

It's quite normal for dogs to eat grass. They know best when they need it and how much. They usually eat it during or after a gastric upset and if they have something in their gut they need neutralised or if they have hair in their throats.

My two eat it every day, they look like grazing cows at times. They don't eat so much that they vomit but I have seen on occasions when one has eaten something he/she shouldn't (they scavenge in the park) the next day he/she will eat grass continually until it enduces vomiting.

I wouldn't stop Ollie from eating grass as Ollie in this case knows best. He's probably still got some acid reflux or like after the incident and he's eating the grass to make himself better.
Although if he keeps making himself vomit for several days in a row, I would take him to the vet to get him checked out. As there could be something more sinister going on.

What dog is Ollie?
