When did the word/s pussy or puss first become attributed to cats?

One source suggests "...The term puss (as in pussycat or Puss in boots) may come from Dutch (from "poes", a female cat, or the diminutive poesje, an endearing term for any cat) or from other Germanic languages..."

Hi MWB domestic cat Felis catus; whose ancestors probably included the african, f libyca, and the european wild cat f silvestris.
On Iriomote island, s japan, there is a very fine wild cat long thought extinct.

A conventional name for a cat in Gmc. languages and as far off as Afghanistan; it is the root of the principal word for "cat" in Romanian (pisica) and secondary words in Lith. (puz), Low Ger. (puus), Swed. dial. katte-pus, etc.
