I need to take out some old low carbon steel pipework in a customers kitchen to make way for a new unit, is there a fitting I can get to screw into the female thread of one of the exsiting fittings used to join the pipe that will enable me to connect copper pipe to re route the pipework instead of having to muck about taking all the steel out and starting from scratch Paul

Yes Go to a plumbing supply store and ask for an iron to copper fitting, don't go to the big D I Y stores unless you can talk to their plumbing specialist. You will need to know the size of the Steel pipe you want to come from and the size of copper you want to change to, best of luck the smaller shops are usually very helpful.
This should really be in D I Y which explains why there have been no answers.
