With the computer running, carefully remove the side panel. push your finger on the middle of the cpu fan for just a quick second to stop it and see if the noise goes away. Dont stop the fan for more than a few seconds because the cpu will quickly overheat.

Thanks for quick reply Peanut. I did what you said but it hasn't made any difference. Do you have any other ideas?
Eliminate 1 possibility at a time. Fans, (not the cpu fan) , hard drives, cd / dvd drives. Be sure to turn off the computer while disconnecting or reconnecting the hard drive. your computer wont do anything but give an error when you turn it back on with no hard drive but you will know if its at fault for the noise.
Did you change these parts yourself? if not, Why not just bring it to the person who did?

Hi Peanut. Been having major probs with my PC. My son (who has put hundreds of PC's together) changed the m/board and the mem. We did all the process of elimation business before, tried hard drives eyc in my daughters and they worked fine. This is when my son decided it must be a motherboard prob. I have just left the PC on downloading updates and when i had returned it had switched itself off and now wont come back on. Green lights still on all cables in correctly, im really fed up now.
