A good reliable fuel efficient car.

Hi. I'm starting a new job soon and it'll mean quite a bit of travelling there and back. I need a car that'll be easy on the fuel and reliable. I was thinking of a second hand VW Polo 1.1. Would a Polo 1.9 diesel be more efficient?

well i had a 1.1i saxo 2 weeks ago i bought a new cectra estate 1.9cdti sri which is diesel and this does more mpg than saxo so id say yes

not sure about the 1.1 but i have a golf 1.9 tdi 2001. This ,if i take it easy,will do 60mpg.If driven a bit harder,say 80-90mph gives a return of 55mpg.
