11 across. Clue: Man, fifth centre half in the lead (4) I have: T?E?. Help please. Coul it be "Trev", last three letters of centre plus "v" for "van"- lead?

Tref ? centre of fifth= f....half centre (tre) in the lead TREF

Hello kayakamina, thank you: brilliant as always!
Or V for fifth? Are you happy with Tref, K? Could the word 'centre' be used twice in this way?
And Trev is a more common ab. for Trevor.
I was not really satisfied with my answer AQ- hence the ?.

As you say the double use of centre bothered me as did the notion that V could mean 'fifth' and not five.

I'm sure the answer is Trevor - either Trev or Tref !
