Currently working for a pensions provider i know a fair bit about the process etc of a pension but dont know too much about the places people chose to invest their funds in. What does each fund choice mean for example property, balanced managed etc is there somewhere i can find out what each one means?

Try asking your pensions provider first but if you want to find out what each type of fund you are investing in try exploring the following site.http://www.trustnet.com/pen/ . Most funds are self explanatory i.e. the property fund invests in commercial property not residential, the equity fund invests in the uk stock market and so on.
