I was born to an irish mother back in 1969 and was later adopted in 1970. I am trying to find out more info about my mother but believe it is quite difficult to trace relatives in ireland. Is there anyway of searching / obtaining birth and marriage certificates without having to physically travel to ireland as I have had difficulty in finding any sites that offer this info online. Many thanks

Civil registration in Ireland is just the same as ours except it started a few years later, and the system in the last 50 years has run efficiently, you don't say which part of Ireand which makes a slight difference.

Thank you for your replies. I have looked at the website you suggested which is very useful. Many thanks indeed. For info my original birth certificate indicates that my mothers permanent residence was in Cork, R of I.
