we are moving in to my wifes retired parents house which is council and they do not own and get the rent paid for them etc so we will pay the rent etc what we want to know is will they lose there pension credits as we work

I don't think so but ring the Benefit help line 0800 88 22 00 they will tell you and check if your parents receive all they are entitled to. I think this number is freephone .

You should also be aware that if the tenancy to the house is in your parents in-law's name, when they eventually die the tenancy will not automatically revert to you and you will find yourself homeless. I doubt whether the Council would transfer the tenancy to you as they probably have a very long waiting list of families with children who need housing, so you will also need to consider your own long-term housing needs and make some suitable provision for them.
