what sort of paint is good for painting ceramic plant pots keeping in mind they are going to be for outside use and can I put a varnish on the pots without the use of a kiln? Any Ideas?

Hi there, first of all when youve bought your pot..make sure it is totally dry before painting. Sometimes garden centers leave them out in the open for days in the rain etc...the paint will eventually flake if not totally dry. Keep indoors for several days.
I use acrylic paint and when dry I use the best yacht varnish..clear, of course. (dont water down the acrylic).
Some pots need two coats.
Also, if the pot is going to be left out year after year make sure the pot you buy is frost proof!
I`ve sold pots done like this for more than twenty years and they`re still around and looking good! The latest one I`m doing is to be put on someones grave.
