Has anyone recently flown to South Africa with SAA/Lufthansa. We are 4 adults with a 15month old baby flying shortly to Cape Town via Frankfurt. We are receiving so much conflicting information on our baggage allowance. Now we hear that we are restricted to 20kg per adult (can that be more than 1 suitcase?) and 10 kg for the infant, checked baggage.

Can anyone confirm this for us through their own experience please?

Many thanks for your help.

I flew from Cape Town to Frankfurt in February with SAA/LH.
I just checked my boarding card (which was still lying around) and it says 2 pcs and 30Kgs (economy). Please don't accept this as gospel, but it is pretty convincing. Try checking the web site www.flysaa.com.

Thanks BenDToy. It is interesting that when you flew TO Frankfurt from Cape Town you were allowed 30kg and 2 pieces luggage. Flying out the other way via Heathrow/Frankfurt/Cape Town it appears we are only allowed 20 kg per person and10kg for the infant but now we have received our tickets it does state 20kg per adult but NIL for the baby. We get different information every time we ask, even from Trailfinders, Lufthansa and SAA. Originally we were told 20 kg x 2 per adult. which would have allowed my daughter and son-in-law to take the baby backpack as well as the buggy. Now we still aren't sure about that.

My husband went to Heathrow yesterday to ask and we are still confused. It's no good them telling us that we will find out on the day, we want to know now so that it saves us a lot trouble on the day we fly. They talk about charging 20 per kg plus 7 handling fee on top for excess baggage. It is a minefield.

My husband is returning to Heathrow tomorrow - luckily it's near his workplace - to try again!
