Budgies in the bonnet?

While driving to work this morning the car started making a funny noise, a one that I can only describe as "100's of pidgeons in the hood!". Obviously after checking under the bonnet for birds I was fresh out of ideas.

It makes the noise (quite loud as well!) any where above 30mph. When it happens I can also feel the smallest of vibrations on my right foot, whether it is on the brake or accellerator at the time. There isn't any more symptoms I can give to this. I have sat still in the car and revved the engine, which sounds absolutley fine, none of these sounds at all.

If it helps, it also happened last October while driving down to York. A couple of days later on the way back up from York I didn't experience the problem and haven't since up until now.

Any help!? Thanks in advance.

You mention York a couple of times but you don't mention which car you have, that would help.

It does sound more like the transmission is making the noise rather than the engine as it only happens when the car is moving.

Drive shafts, brakes, wheel bearings, etc.
