I was awarded an endowment policy as part of my divorce settlement and this has been duly transferred.
My question is this: he is living in Romania, how do I know if he dies out there?? How would I find out? His family would not necessarily inform me; they have moved away. Is there a tracing system or a database you are allowed to access? Obviously I am not hoping this for his sons' sakes but he has not been in contact for a year now and I do not know whether to try to trace him or not( or how).

Check that the endowment policy has been 'assigned' to you. You can do this by contacting the Insurance Company directly. If it was done correctly by your solicitor then you have no worries. You could ask for your ex to be removed from the policy or even sell the endowment on the second hand endowment market if it is the right type i.e. With Profits.

Yes it has been correctly assigned to me solely. It pays me if he dies and my sons if I die. I do not want to sell it as it is with profits and is inexpensive and pays out in 5 yrs.
