the terraced house next door is empty. the old man who used to live there, now lives up the road with his younger family. the empty house is literally falling to pieces and im worried about its effect on my house. there are trees growing out of the roof and part of the front of the house looks as if it may collapse. are there any avenues i can persue so that someone would put pressure on them to at least ensure it does not affect adjoining properties?

Safety of dwellings is the responsibility of Building Control at the local council. They can order the owner to make improvements if things unsafe to the public, and I imagine this extends to neighbouring dwellings for a terrace. Try ringing them up and asking.
