Quince.

"They dined on mince and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon."
Quince was eaten sliced - it is a fruit used in jams and jellies, not so common these days.

'They dined upon mince and slices of quice,
which they ate with a runcible spoon (a spoon with prongs)
And hand in hand, on the edge of they sand
They danced by the light of the moon.'
