Just one more that I am not sure about.
1. This bird was the name of Scott of the Antarctic's ship. (6)

I know his middle name was Falcon, but the name of the ship was Discovery.
Any input greatly welcomed.

HMS Spider
His other ship for the second expidition was called Terra Nova. Even the ships from his Naval career arent birds- there was HMS Spider among others but hardly a bird! Bit baffling!
could it be the name of a bird hidden in the name of the ship?

I agree burnhal, very frustrating!
Interesting- one of Peary's expedition ships was called... Falcon
Why does it have to be a bird? The quiz is called "Find the Creatures".
yerbamate, did you get the answer for your previous posting?
Monty (Montgomery) Python.
Forget that, I see that you received it.
Scott's ship was escorted (I think out of N Zealand) and one of the escort ships was HMS Lizard.
That is as near as I can get.
Aquagility: The actual clue reads: This bird was the name of Scott of the Antarctic's ship. (6)
That's why we're all hunting for a Bird and not a creature.
How about this: Scott, (Falcon) and in Star Wars there was a Falcon Ship.
Is this a case of "any port in a storm"? :-)
This site which is very detailed and two pages long is the story of Scott's life and mentions every ship he ever set foot on prior to his death. None of the ships has a bird as its name.

That't the site I was on too, Ont-ice. I think with the wording of the clue 'the name of Scott of the Antarctic' it has to be Falcon. The Falcon ship of Star Wars is some kind of connection.
Badly worded clue in my opinion or totally incorrect as certainly the setter is asking for the name of Scott's ship.
Has me beaten.
This bird was the name of Scott of the Antarctic's ship. (6)

There is a Bird Spider -

so the creature is 'Spider'

Many thanks to everyone for all your effort on this tricky question. I have also trawled through all websites about Scott, and am boggle eyed now. When I eventually get the answers, I will post it on here. Cheers everyone.x
