Is honey any less fattening than sugar? I have a sweet tooth and I'm trying to lose weight. I enjoy herbal tea and worry that the spoonful of honey I put in might not be helping. Help!

They're pretty much the same in terms of carbohydrates and sugars, but a level teaspoon of honey will contain slightly more of both than an equal measure of sugar.
Sugar is all sucrose. Honey has very little sucrose, but a large amount of the plant sugar fructose, plus glucose. Some people will say that fructose sugars are better for you than sucrose sugars.
Miffy - I found a free online calorie counter for you:

http://www.changingshape.com/resources/calcula tors/caloriecounter.asp

It shows the following:

Honey, 1 tablespoon 60 calories

Sugar 1 teaspoon 16 calories
1 tablespoon 48 calories

If your biggest sin is a spoonful of honey in herbal tea then you are worrying too much!!!Enjoy your honey- it is good for you! Better than nasty processed white sugar..

Thank you all for your info, I shall no longer worry about honey or sugar. When you're on a diet you get obsessed with what you're eating!
