I know someone who is convinced that if you're slightly over the limit and pop a couple of Rennies, it will show up OK on breathalyser. Is this an urban myth, or is there a smidgeon of truth in it. I can't convince him it must be rubbish.

as these breath tests measure the alcohol level in your lung blood, i don't see how the state of your digestion system could change anything about it. So in my oppinion its rubbish
Uh and tell him he's a total to$$er if he thinks it's ok to drink and drive regardless. I absolutely HATE drink drivers - there is no excuse and being "a little over the limit" is ********, if you're driving you shouldn't drink at all.

Er, thanks for the tirade becks. For your information, he's never tried it in his life. He was told and believed it - but in fact his job is driving and he won't drink after 11pm if driving next day. Wouldn't dream of risking it. So get off your high horse becks and have a cold shower!
I have heard this myself (I am teetoal so have no intention of seeing if it works). A friend of mine said it could possibly work on the basis of the calcium carbonste in the Rennies working as and absorbing agent - intercepting some of thecohl as it passes through the mouth. Sounds like pseudo-scientific b**locks to me though.
if you drink the night before it can still be dangerous to drive the next day.dont take risks with peoples lifes???
Given my appalling spelling in the previous post - one might indeed assume that I have been drinking, I'm off to the chemist now for a pack of Rennies (I will walk)
So why would he want to know? Surely if he has no intention of drinking and riving - why would he care? And what sort of helpful information would it be to know if it does or not "Ooh i'm a bit ****** but i'll drive home anyway" - "Oh don't worry mate I know that if you pop a couple of rennies they'll never know" - how is that useful to anyone or responsible for anyone to tell you whether it's true or not. ?The same thing went round about sucking a 2p or something and that's not true either. Sorry I wasn't meaning to rant, just cannot understand the mentality behind drink drivers. I read your question as this is something that he does - or is going to try and you have to admit you didn't exactly say "don't worry he doesn't intend on doing it" or even that you don't condone it, and just wanted to find out if it's true. It's irresponsible to tell people whether this is true otherwise people might try it - they might get away with it and then be able to give you a categorical answer but it's not exactly safe is it. That is all i was trying to get albeit in a rather ranty way - sorry!
AAARRGRGGHHH I JUST TYPED THE LONGST ANSWER AND IT DISAPPEARED!!!!! Anyway will try and type it all again - cheesefreek - my point wasn't to have a rant, well it was actually - i absolutely cannot tolerate drink drivers and from your question you didn't exactly say - don't worry he's not going to try it - or i don't actually want to do it, just know if it's true... also what use is it to possibly know whether it is true or not - what is he going to do if his mate is a bit ****** and wants to drive home "don't worry mate have a couple of rennies and you'll be fine" - it's hardly responsible is it - and i'm not saying he would do that just don;t see what the point of knowing is. It might work, fine and someone might get away with it and be able to give you a ctegorical answer but it's hardly safe is it. The same thing went round about sucking a 2p which is (gross as well as) not true, it wasn't meant to come across that i'm on a high horse or anything - just can't see how the answer to this would benefit anyone.
Oh are you kidding me - sorry cheesefreek, don't know why it's doing this to me, i'll try and stop clogging up your inbox now. :)

For gawd's sake!! It's happens to be my hubby I'm talking about by the way. He would never DREAM of trying it himself. We both DESPISE drunk drivers. We're both human! It was one of those questions that we've pondered about for years. He doesnt even use Rennies for INDIGESTION!! As for not driving after drinking the evening before Vinny? - get real! The streets would be empty every day!!!
I think Vinny's point was about when someone gets asolutely plastered the night before, then it can be dangerous for them to drive the morning after - I know I've still felt far too ropey on one or two (ahem) occasions to even think about driving the following day!
Ok point taken, but after the amount of idiot children that have been posting on here i wasn't sure that you're not some 17 year old who's just got his licence wants to get plastered, drive and get away with it! sorry if i have caused you any offence, just aiming to be responsible in case you weren't a grown up. And also the night before thing is true - two people i know of have been done the day after a heavy sesh the night before, and it makes no difference to the courts - they both got 18 months band - the same as someone who got into a car staight from a pub for example...
It takes 1 hour for the body ta get rid of 1 unit of alcohol.1 unit is half a pint or 1x25ml shot of spirits.Stopping drinking at 11pm after 6 pints doesn't take a lot of working out.
Question Author
6 pints? Well thank god me old man doesn't drink that much in an evening. He'd be legless. 3 pints or a bottle of wine between us is our limit. So it seems he's OK!! OK?
Both my brothers are HGV drivers and will not/do not drink in the 24 hours before going on shift. To much to loose.

Well good for them
I have to stick up for cheesefreek here, she was only asking a question. It's one of those questions that just niggle away at you, and you dont expect to get abuse for simply enquiring about it.
