Virgin Media contract

Hi, I signed up to NTL about six weeks ago. It's a one year contract. NTL has now become Virgin Media and has failed to renew the contract for Sky channels, meaning that I lose Sky One and Sky Sports News etc - the latter being the channel I probably watch the most. I'm not happy with the package that's left and I'd like to leave. Can they hold me to the remainder of my contract given that the package is now materially different to the one I signed up to?

Depends on what the contract states - it will probably have a line which states "NTL reserve the right to reduce or replace the channels you receive"

That said, you probably could get out of the contract if you so wish. If you call them, they will in all likelihood tell you no.

I would suggest writing to them (recorded delivery) stating that you wish to cancel the contract for the stated reason. Give them 4 weeks notice and cancel your direct debit.
Join the club, no refund, cant cancel we're basically screwed. Sky Digital here I come. Sky VS Virgin, looks like Virgin have lost.
I am with NTL/Virgin too.

I didn't know about the takeover and when I started to receive Virgin mail through the post I chucked it away thinking it was junk! a couple of weeks later I got cut off at 1.00am (I was waiting for the NTL bill).

I had no phone calls from Virgin at all. I am wondering if going over to BT and Sky would be a more favourable option? my PC was offline last night (despite paying the bill last week, lol) though NTL were no different...
If you write to them try this first -

It's been on here before i believe, but is excellent!

Last year when i changed my name due to marraige i rang and asked them to update my details. They still havent - as i refuse to send in my requested certificate for them to lose, so having received my notification of their name change i wrote and informed them that i would require legal documentation to that effect and would not be paying any bills until this was actioned. I explained that this should not be a problem as it is one of THEIR policies so they should understand this. If they were not willing then they should also understand my reluctance to forward said document.
They wrote back informing me that i should send in a COPY of my certificate and if i require legal documentation re their name change, i should contact a solicitor! My latest reply stated that as a Marraige, Birth or Death certificate is a Copyrighted document, this will not be possible!! The saga continues! Good luck m8 - you'll need it!
Nice one, angeldraws :o)
