Just a quick question for people currently at uni, are laptops common place now in (a non-IT subject) Lecture Theatre, with all the eager students now using the the keyboard instead of the notepad to take down lecture notes?

nobody ever used them in my lectures!
i have seen one or two using it but i find it hinders your tome listening to what the lecturer is saying as you are just trying to copy the notes of the powerpoint etc
they are not activiely encouraged within lectures as if everyone was busy tapping away, then you wouldn't be able to hear the lecturer.

on the other hand it is definitely worthwhile getting one for your use as there are often not enough computers available centrally when you want one!
not in mine, notes are either given by the lecturer or people scibble at 100mph lol
