After today, would you be able to use a mobile phone with the earpiece thingy supplied when bought or does it have to be a special piece of equipment to use in the car? If so, roughly how much would you expect to pay for it? Thanks

You can still use a phone with the handsfree kit supplied, although they are trying to get those stopped too due to lack of concentration whilst talking.
Hi have a look here

http://www.carphonewarehouse.com

could be cheaper than a fine! & additional insurance premiums
or just stop to make or take a call
How can they say ban hands free due to lack of concentration while talking - they would need to ban talking to people in the car, listening to the radio, smoking, chewing gum etc etc etc
I went and bought a small cradle from halfords for 5.00 that sticks to the dash, slot the phone in and I just use the loudspeaker facility on the phone...saves you getting tangled up in cables. Cant use blutooth as with my glasses( need them to drive) and earings cant fit any more behind me ears!!
