Firstly, I want to make it perfectly clear that I am not prejudice, I have black friends and asian friends alike. However, how can it be that the 'Black' community can have their own awards like the MOJO awards and suchlike (I saw on the news yesterday that there is another award ceremony which took place, think it was called the Black Artists Award) and we 'white people' do not kick up a stink ! However, if we (the white people that is), had our own 'WHITE ARTIST AWARD' it would be claimed to be prejudice !!!! I have asked my Black / Asian friends and they cannot answer this.... any ideas or comments out there .... ?

Do you mean the MOBO awards? Music of Black Origins? If so, then these awards can be won by people of ANY nationality, it's just the type of music they perform.

However, depending on what field the 'Black Artists Award' is in (I couldn't find it on google), then I can appreciate why it may exist. If it's in a field dominated by caucasian people, then it gives the opportunity for someone in the minority to be applauded.
I've often wondered that. You often see special clubs for black people too, but never for white.

Hello missmoore, yes (sorry) it was the MOBO awards i meant - trust me to get that wrong! I didn't realise it could actually be won by anybody (always seemed to be black winners) but that would make sense if anyone could win and it was just for the origin or type of music they perform.

I don't remember the actual name of the awards which took place yesterday, but they did mention 'Black Artists Award'. Think it was something to do with authors or writing of theatre/films etc. Thanks for information, like i said i am not prejudice myself, but even my own friends had no idea why?
Hello MustangLady, also not wanting to sound racist (my best friend in the whole world is muslim and i'm not just saying that to make myself sound better!) but it is a challenge that white people seem to have to deal with now. Authorities bend over backwards for ethnic minorities and give nothing to white people these days. Any such award ceremony for white people would be considered racist and yet if we speak about the mobos etc we are considered racist. I am not really fussed about these award ceremonies or anything else, but i do sometimes feel that my rights are being taken away from me because or political correctness.
Most people are so paranoid at the thought of being accused of being racist, that the comment has to be preambled by a statement to the contrary. Such is the fear that political correctness has instilled into us.

"Im not being racist, but ...... MOBO awards, Association of black police officers ..... etc"

But don't kick up a stink, or you will be labelled "racist."
Can people of any colour be nominated for an award?
The answer is "Yes".
Can people of any colour win an award?
The answer is "Yes".
Have any of 'dem damn honkies' ever won an award?
The answer is "Yes".

The MOBOs are about as anti-white as the Kerrang! awards are anti-black.
But everone paranoid eh Waldo?
Apparently a lot of people would rather leap to a conclusion than, I dunno, put MOBO into Wikipedia. A lot of people would rather see a conspiracy against the poor, hard done-by white people rather than bother finding out what the MOBOs are about. There's plenty enough racism in the world without needing to invent it where none exists.

This question has come up on this site *at least* once every year for the past six years, it'd be nice if people used the 'search facility' (http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Search/Default. asp?SearchText=MOBO&searchformSubmit=SUBMIT)
Waldo - Your integrity is admiarable. I salute you.
if i remember correctly dont know whether it was in reference to this year or last, there was a white winner of some category or other.
In this country specifically there are no real white only clubs because we are in the majority and a lot of places are by chance all white. If people from similar backgrounds want to get together in a club for solidarity why not?
I think Joss Stone won a MOBO - I may be wrong
