I want to buy a wireless router and was wondering which was the best one to buy. We have in the house one stand alone P.C. and two lap tops.

Thanks in advance for your advise.

I've enjoyed a lot of success with Netgear routers.

I tend to recommend the DG834, as shown here:

That said, I also like the DLink 624T unit:

If you're two laptops don't have wireless built-in, be sure to look at getting either a USB wireless dongle or a PC Card for them. Ditto for the PC, look for a USB dongle or a PCI card. And when installing a USB dongle, be sure to install the drivers before plugging the dongle in!

Before you buy anything though, do you have ADSL broadband or cable broadband? (ADSL broadband is the sort through your phone line, and cable is along the same stuff you may get cable TV through.)

This is important: most ADSL broadband ISPs supply a modem with a USB connection that isn't compatible with a standard router, so you need to buy a modem+router in one.

I've found Belkin and Linksys to be good brands, but my favourite is Netgear. Have a look at these:

cable broadband:

We run two laptops and an all in one printer, scanner, copier, fax from a BT phoneline wirelessly with Netgear and it works fine.
Contrary to previous advice I would NOT recommend Netgear. The orducts are fine, reliable and simple to install.

However, their Technical Support is appauling should you have a problem.

It has taken them over 6 months to finally come back to me with an answer on installing a wireless PCI card. By which time I had circumvented the issue with a USB adapter.
