Usually when "easy listening " is on . I dont listen to the lyrics. However I started to listen when " Gonna Change the World" sung by Matt Munro came on. Now < Matt Munro was old fashioned when i was a kid in the 1960's.

Yet the lyrics are all about a protest which ends with a clash with the Police in which ( I think ) someone Dies! Hardly his usual material.

What on earth persuaded a middle of the road entertainer to record this protest song?

BTW - revisited " On Days like These" - wow, with a song like this you can really appreciate what a fine voice he had!

It's an odd one, isn't it? There was a documentary about Matt Monro on BBC4 and then BBC2 recently (well worth catching if it turns up again) in which the story given was basically that the songwriter submitted it on the offchance and Matt and his producer thought, well, it certainly stands out, why not give it a go? So they did.
I saw the programme like Jenstar says it is well worth watching. They did point out that the song was totally different to anything else he'd done and at the time he was "past his sell by date" in Britain. It did the trick.

I agree with you about On Days Like These and also love his versions of The Impossible Dream and Born Free
