Test for 'real' leather

I bought a leather couch off CSL furniture at the end of last year. My girlfriends hair is attracted to the couch when she sits on it as you would expect to happen with a vinyl couch.

Does anyone know if leather can attract hair with a static effect and also, is there an easy test to see if a 'leather' is real?

If you stub out a cigarette on leather, it won't melt!

check the composition label which you will find somewhere on the couch. This should say what grade of leather it is or if it is made of PVC.

Some couches are leather at the front where it shows, but matching vinyl at the back, They do this to keep the price down, so it could be both.
