I'm not sure whether it's safe or even illegal to download Limewire.

Some guys at work say it screws up your PC with viruses while others have told me they've never had any problems.

Who's right?

Don't think it is illegal to use limewire as long as maybe you download music which has licences? I have used limewire previously with no problems, got a new pc and we have had serious problems and wonder if it is down to limewire as it keeps crashing so don't use anymore. any other good sites out there?
Limewire is completely illegal - you're basically copying other peoples music meaning you aren't paying for it which is illegal!
Don't know about the viruses though - if you've got anti-virus software I would imagine it would stop them but I'm no IT expert so don't quote me on that
anything that's peer to peer isn't good !
I've had limewire for about a year, it hasnt given my comp any viruses, but it does slow it down. Sometimes it crashes my computer and it messes up, but generally quite good. I wouldn't advise if u have other users on ur computer (they moan as it slows down-a lot) hope this helps! X
I use it....but find it slows my computer down a lot. I tend to gather a list of what music I want...download it...move it to another folder and then uninstall....

It onlt takes about 5 mins to download as well...so not too much hastle...

But illegal....yes
yo illegal limme wire not really as long as u dont upload and download un licsened stuff, but other than that its all good get it
Agree with Kaz Celica on the legal issue. Limewire and other P2P software are designed for file sharing and 'networking' etc which is legal. it's the illegal swapping of mp3's etc that is frowned upon. Also Limewire is notorious for it's gnutella engine that installs tons of Spyware onto your PC. Its a shame because so many people use it to share music and the GUI is great but i got so frustrated with my PC crawling to a halt that i had to switch to Soulseek. Soulseek is like a mini Limewire, it doesn't look anywhere near as nice and doesn't download quite as quickly but it just sits there quietly downloading your tunes, doesn't slow down your PC or load it with spyware. So give Soulseek a go or learn how to Bit-torrent, bit-torrent is by far the best method for downloading!
None of these programs is illegal. It's what you use them for that may be illegal. Limewire is full of nasties which any good AV program should intercept. The new Ares program is great and for p2p try DC++.
Ooooohhhh your copying other peoples music and not paying for it, what a shame! To all the users on here who say it's illegal, I suppose you get written permission from the record company before you lend someone a CD and you've never copied an album off your mates. If CD's were a decent price and not 16 for a non chart CD then I wouldn't download. Anyway I've used Limewire to download 2000 tracks and no problems, apart from it does slow you down so just tend to use it with nothing else running.
