My partner has not lived with his ex for over 4 years but she has just informed him that the police have been to her property this morning with a warrant for his arrest. He can't think of anything that he has done wrong. Why would they have her address and what sort of offence do you think it would be related to after all of this time has expired?

Could be any number of offences it is impossible to say.

In trying to trace him however the police will visit any addresses he has given in the past which are are either on their records or other records such as electoral roll, local authority, benefits agency etc.
It is likely to be an alleged non-payment of a fine or something like that, even if only a small amount remains outstanding. When a warrant is issued by the court, the police (or usually one of their employees) have no choice in whether to arrest the person, but they are usually released on bail immediately. Some years ago, when I was a police officer. I had to bring someone back from Scotland to the Midlands when he was accused of driving without insurance and having no water in his washer bottle. In that case, he had failed to turn up at court owing to a misunderstanding. If he was wanted for something serious, he would be in custody by now.
