No more than any other process that involves an op, their are general things like nausea and headache etc but nothing major as far i can tell, its a very safe procedure but obviously get all the facts first xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
yes there are.
Thats a very serious Q CB...hope you are ok and it doesnt affect you....x
they take your cells in one of two ways
1) operation where they anaesthatize you and harvest the bome marrow from your pelvic region (no cutting involved, but can be very painful afterwards) like any operation, this carries risk
2) they give you a weeks worth of cell growth factor injections which makes the bone marrow stem cells proliferate and spill out into your blood. You then have them spun off of a machine, a bit like giving bloog over a couple of days (or maybe 1 day if they get enough)
with this method there is also a risk because no-body knows the log term effects of the gowth factors
Might be best to pop to your local blood donor centre and they should have some info there and be able to answer any questions.

I wanted to go on the donor list but can't as mine's not suitable but they gave me loads of info about it before I had the tests done for suitability.

This might help...

Thanks for that, Jenna, I've just been reading through some of the stuff I've been sent. Thought I might venture onto here, too. :o) x x x
Hi WS! My friend who has leukemia may need a bone marrow transplant, in which case I'm definitely going to donate mine if I'm a match for her. I too have been looking into the risks, but to be honest, I'll try anything that can help her; whatever side effects I experience can be nothing compared to what she is suffering. xx
