Why does Baz Luhrmann not include Romeo murdering Paris in the modern adaptation of Shakespeares 'Romeo and Juliet'?

Perhaps hollywood thought including it would not have made the character of Romeo sympathetic enough to satisfy cinema audiences.
The killing of Count Paris by Romeo is removed from many productions of Romeo and Juliet, both on film and on stage. I tend to agree with Tiny E.A that his more mature love for Juliet tends to make Romeo appear a far less sympathetic figure and more a selfish, immature yob.
