I am trying to figure out how to attach data labels to a chart I have created in Excel. I am working in Excel 2003. My data table consists of a list of names in Column A, a set of X values in Column B and a set of Y values in Column C. I have created the XY (Scatter) Chart by identifying my source data for Series one as being the range of values I need in Columns B & C. The point plot correctly on the chart but I am unable to attach the data labels from Column A. I have searched through Excel help but can not find the answer. Any suggestions?

Had a play this morning and could only get the data labels from Column A when I drew a line graph. They then appeared along the X axis. With a scatter chart I could get the names in the body of the chart itself - but it looked very messy and pretty unreadable.

Sounds good, how did you go about it?

Select columns A B and C and just choose line graph from the choices.

You may have to change the alignment of the text at the bottom. If I remember correctly this can be done by double clicking on the labels themselves. You should get a menu then.
