Clever stuff, slaney, it fits in perfectly, so many thanks.
Are you a reader of The Oldie ?
Hi slaney nice one!
Question Author
Brilliant, crofter, thanks so much.

Evening both.. occasional reader (as an aid to geriatric deliquency)
Hi crofter hope you are in good form.

Or delinquency even !
Question Author
You two lads obviously have good knowledge of how to do crosswords. Anything even remotely 'cryptic' makes me flounder, I really prefer the general knowledge ones where I can check the encyclopaedias for the answers....
Thanks again to you both,

Neutron
Cryptic skills can be picked up with practice and give solving an extra dimension.
PS I believe slaney is a laydee.
Question Author
My apologies, slaney !
Might have known your sleuthing powers would have worked it out, crofter!
Laydee --not sure , in spite of much effort on the part of others.
Question Author
Well, the name of slaney does not give any clues to whether feminine or masculine, so we just have to guess"

Yes, crofter, when one sees how a cryptic clue's answer has been worked out, it is more interesting, and thanks for explaining how you got 'reassures'.
I struggled with this one: Revolutionary for example with time disrupting certain movement (7)

I've put 'gesture' in for the answer, and it seems okay.
for example = eg (revolutionary) = GE
Then T(ime) into SURE (certainty) gives GESTURE
should be "certain" and GESTURE = movement (definition)

There's always a "definition" and the "wordplay"
Question Author
Thanks crofter, for the explanation.

I thought it was correct, but I didn't know why, apart from the eg ! Now with your explanation, I can see it.

Goodnight, crofter and slaney,

Cheers,
Neutron
