I am pulling my hair out, admittedly we have had this problem since may last may when we had broadband installed, and now BT our finally looking into it and sending a tech round tomorrow to look at it because everything that we could have been tried has been tried to fix the problem and that leaves the problem in BT 's corner which was what they said (never though they admitted to problems).

Anyway just yesterday morning my pc say that I should install internet explorer 7 so I did. Ever since the problem on getting online i.e. connecting is 100% worse I can hardily get online at all and the "this web page can not be displayed is driving me mad"

I have a brand new dell pc running XP and linksys router everything thing obviously connected which is proved by the fact at the moment with the new internet explorer 7, I seem to be able to access some sites but not others. I can get on youtube, answerbank, email quite easily but others with no luck why is this??????

Any help would be great!

Thanks for your help rowan, however I am dumb and not not really know much of what you just said.

Re unistalling the new and reinstalling the older version yes I understand what you mean but well I'm not sure how to do it, I assume you click to uninstall and then go to some website to find the older version and install that?? As this is not easy for me it is not my first choice to try first.

I have looked though my internet setting and nothing looks wrong also my router setting are spot on so it cannot be that.

However re your comment: try another web browser like firefox - I have heard of it but do not know how to change it and what I am using now???

If you haven't got time to explain this to a dumb person then I understand, but if you have got time then great.

Many thanks.

sorry it also seems that I cannot speak..or should I say write proper english
lol.
Try to restore to a time when you could connect to the internet. Start> Help and Support> System Restore. Go to date before you installed IE7 it might help
rite if you want to unistall IE7
Click start then click control panel then you see add remove prggramme click that it should load then you will see a list of proggrms on your PC listed in alphabetical order see if you can see IE7 then click unistall then wait untill it unistall and its complete then .see if you can go to

http://www.tucows.com/preview/193778

download it and install it then it should work.any more problems im happy to help
SEADART theres no point in restoring the computer back to a date because you do lose files and your pc gets confused ive done it many times in the past.i know where you are coming from you only do that if it is serious this isnt that serious and can be solved with out that.

Thanks so much rowan I will do that but first as the bt tech guy is coming tomorrow because the broadband line keeps dropping off 'they think' I will wait until they have been if they tell me there is nothing wrong with the line and the signal is strong and constant then I will unistall and reinstall etc.

As I said I have had the problem all along even with the IE6 so I think part off the problem is the line itself.

But the fact it has got even worse with IE7 I think I will have to do as you say.

I will post back when I hear from the bt chappy.

Thanks again, and esp. for giving me the info in laymans terms ...great!
no problem!!By the way if you have got broadband with BT they are useful LOL ive been there.Poor service. But also i will say that problem might be the modem/router software .you might need to install the BT installtion disk again and software for the modem/router if you had one.!

Interesting what you say about bt and the router software.

Office is closing now though so will have to go.

Would love to talk tomorrow about it or when you are next free.

Cheers
Yes no problem comment on this thread 2morrow and ill help you again. : -)
Just thought it was worth a try worked for me before but I bow to your knowlege

Bt guy just been and as expected he said that he could not see that there was a problem as nothing showed up on his line check but he did say that it did not mean there was no problem as he was there for such a short period of time for him to be present when the signal went down/dropped off/ or broke would be impossible unless he stayed all day.

So he said ring bt back when it drops off and they will look into it. I have since had a call form bt, they are being quite helpful at the moment which is unusually nice. I told them that it had broken again and they said they will put the tech's back on the case and they will phone me monday to see how it was going.

I have been looking through all the setting on my pc etc and at the moment and considering going back to IX6 like you said but I have a question.

This broadband signal problem we are having seems to work in 2 ways sometimes it seems to go down all together and all websites say 'this webpage can not be displayed'. But sometimes for long periods of time it can half break and by this I mean we can access some websites fine but not others or one of the two pcs we have in the office can access the internet while the other one cannot.

But re the fact that at times we can view some websites but not others what would be the reason for this are websites often composed differently so settings on my pc or router will allow us to view some but refuse others.

Many thanks for your help
have you reinstalled IE 6 back on your pc
I think it 4 thing you might need to do:
1. Install IE6
2. Check your Network setting are correct E.g Username, password etc
3. Try installing the modem router cd again and your BT broadband dick
4. Make sure that the modem/router is connected and theres nothing missing in the connection like your Filters
Any other prblems im happy to help !

Many thanks for your help rowan - question when i was connected to broadband I had been given a bt broadband disk with the free router, but as I had my own router (the linksys) which a friend had setup for me, we just really went straight to that, installed the linksys stuff. I am not 100% sure what my friend installed because I left him to it.

Do I need certain software off the bt disk to still run broadband on the linksys router??? whoops
oh rite you should have used the free router that bt give you because it might have the right settings but im sure that might not make a difference.try using the free router and use the cd.Any more problems im happy to help
