like downloaded illegally or something like that?

Why bother? You can get OpenOffice LEGALLY for free. It's better than Word (but similar to use) and reads and writes Word documents (plus it includes equivalent modules to all the ones you get in Office - like Excel, etc.)

I assume if you work (or when you do) you will be quite happy to work for free.

Microsoft pay a lot of people a lot of money to create word so are entitled to sell it.

If you dont want to pay for it then download one of the free alternatives, there are quite a few.
well you probably could get it free but it would be illigal as you would have to pay for it from microsoft to get it legal so check the prices it cant be too much
