I have a Toshiba Qosmio laptop with a 17'' screen which is uncomfortable bright especially in low light room conditions. I know I can turn it down but I have to do this every time I switch on the computer. Can anyone tell me how I can default the screen brightness to a lower level please?

I have a laptop and to turn the brightness down. Press the key in the left hand corner of the keyboard, marked with a blue Fn. Keep this key pressed down and press key F6 this wil lower the brightness. To turn the brightness up press key Fn and keep pressed down and press F7. I use my laptop connected to the mains electricity and find I do not have to keep changeing the brightness. Give it ago and good luck.

Thanks dinosour. I do that already but like you I have to continually adjust the brightness (usually after restarts or hibernation), when on mains power. I also find that manufacturers claims for how long you can work on battery power are greatly exaggerated (by about four times in my experience) even on new machines.
