Any tips on what things I should ensure not to forget for a hot summer holiday? I don't mean things like swimwear etc, but things that people are likely to forget (or have forgotten before!)?

Plenty of cotton clothes - tee-shirts and shorts, but also long-sleeved items in case you get sunburnt. To avoid that, take a good quality sun-block, a hat, moisturiser, a backpack to carry bottled water, some baby-wipes to refresh during journeys, and if you are prone to fluid loss, include some salt tablets. Daft as it sounds, make sure you have the necessary tickets, visas and currency in advance, and don't forget your passport!
First aid kit. If you are going anywhere non-eu then make sure this has IV lines and hypodemics in it. You can get these from boots. Seal it well and pack in main luggage. As long as it is demonstrably devoid of drugs it will not be a problem in customs, but it can stop you picking up hepatitis, HIV and alll sorts of other nasty things if yourequire treatment abroad. Travel insurance documents or inside ec the e111 (or whatever they have replaced it with).Any specialised items (boots for a walking holiday etc.) a bodybelt or similar for cash and some travellers cheques you can hide away in case your main bag gets nicked.
