Gamecube Controller on Wii Virtual Console Games

I've got a Gamecube control pad for my wii and I want to play mario kart 64 but it refuses to start unless i plug in a classic control pad and doesnt seem to recognise the game. I've heard about pressing R on the GC control, but I don't know coz that hasn't worked and it hasn't mentioned that process in any instructions...Any ideas

This seems to be a worrying problem.

I have to ask: is your controller official? One of my friends read online, that some guy couldn't get Mario 64 to work on his Wii because he had the GAME version of the GC controller. This may be the case with you?

Otherwise, have you tried going into a games store and asking for help? If its more convinent, may I suggest joining an online games forum, and asking the people there?

thanks for ure answer. It is a game one, and i tried an official one today and it worked fine when u press R and start a virtual game. Must be the Game control pad. Grrr. Bloomin, rob dogs.
