I've begun the process of a home restoration. Unfortunately, the previous owner smoked incessantly leaving an ecru tinge on anything white - plastiques, wood trim, etc. I've tried numerous bleach cleansers, ammonia, citrus-based products alas, to no avail. Any suggestions?

Sugar soap - I had the same problem, my new house was like an old pub and sugar soap did the trick on the walls etc.
yes.. sugar soap. You can also try that stuff from car accessory places in a bottle (I forget what it's called) for cleaning headlining, etc.
