Auburn, I agree with the 'wee on snow' analogy. Presuming that she won't go to a hairdresser is she going to do it herself (with some help from you?)

My firends mother has white hair and she goes to the best salon she can afford and goes for a classic cut which really transforms her (none of these blue rinsed perms), I think you need to be really careful with white hair as if the colour is too dark it just looks false and ages the person even more. Try and persuade her to go to a good salon, they will take really good care of her, pamper her, and give her a completely new look. Failing that, can you get someone to call at her house?
yeah try and get her in a salon- tell her they know whats best & what would she prefer,.to stay how she has or have a new transformed fantastic look?!
im a saturday girl in a salon & i do colours- theres a woman that comes in with really white hair & she has a dark brown in and it actually looks really good! but have it done really natural with thin highlights rather than thick! x
Why not try silver, its hardly noticable but it brightens the hair
she would benefit by going to a good salon, not your average high street one. if she can afford to go to a london salon like toni & guy and see the Art Director she will get some honest advice and they will recommend what will suit her best. they take into account your age, face shape, colouration and wont let you chose something that wont suit you or that will make you look silly. (some toni & guy's in smaller towns don't have an Art Director and as such my experience has found they really don't have what it takes to look after you when you get older - ie only good with young people). it is worth it's weight in gold.

take care
