Tickets for film premieres aren't placed on general sale. The usual arrangement is that the film distribution company hire the Leicester Square Odeon for the evening, so that it's the distributors (and not the Odeon) which control ticket allocations.

Tickets are initially issued to invited guests. These include people involved in the making of the film, prominent film critics and celebrities whose presence will add to the press coverage of the film.

Any remaining tickets are then used for promotional purposes. For example, they'll be offered to newspapers and radio stations so that they can run competitions to win tickets as long as they give the film plenty of publicity. This is a very cheap way for the distributors to advertise the film and helps offset the cost of hiring the cinema. It also provides the only means by which 'Joe Public' has any chance of getting into the premiere.
