Ruda in croyde is a good place to stay. we have been on a few caravan weekends there. beach just across the road.
Have been to Croyde hundreds of times, Camp/Caravan site practically on the beach, surf hire, volleyball on beach cafe ,pub etc. Village about 10 minutes walk. My son has often stayed at the surfers camp site which belongs to Ruda, is mainly tents, minimal facilities and for young people. It is only open for a few weeks I think July /August time. They have camp fires bbq music etc. (self organised)
