It's made from devils' urine and herbal extracts, the main herb being wormwood (Artemisia absinthium). As for the recipe, who cares it tastes awful
Yup, complex mixture but mainly wormwood, star anise and some other mebers of the carrot family. The toxic compound in it is santonin which can drive you loopy (see V. Van Gogh), which is why it was banned in most of Europe for the best part of a century.
It's also called wormwood. I take it devil's urine is some alcholic substance-any further info?
