Hi, I am interested to know what they do to an engine to get more bhp out of it. For example V.W. do a 1.2 55bhp and a 1.2 64bhp engine for a Polo. I assume it is the same basic engine but what be done technically to improve the performance by nearly 10bhp ?

there are a number of modifications to enhance an engines performance.one of them being to chip your car.this is attached to your electronics system to change the normal manufacturers settings.eg,allowing more air and fuel through.another is a performance exhaust which can also add bhp.even fitting a performance air filter like a k&n can give you more.the manufacturers claims are usually on the optimistic side but they all can add bhp

Thanks sako, after some more research I have found that in my example the 1.2 64bhp is 4v per cylinder and the 1.2 55 is 3v per cylinder which helps to explain it.
