Can someone please elaborate on the myth or otherwise that exists surrounding the legality of pregnant women being allowed to urinate in the helmet of a police officer should they be "caught short" in the market place of Durham City?

That isn't a myth it is the law and it doesn't just apply to Durham City it applies to the whole of England and Wales! A pregnant lady is perfectly within her rights to ask a bobby for his hat should she need to urinate and there are no facilities in close proximity. However, that does mean NO facilities.. if there is a shop near they would be expected to go there etc. It's more of an 'olden' law as it does not really apply nowadays being that it is very unlikely that there will not be any faciities nearby!!
And that policemen don't seem to wear helmets any more!
