Probably something to do with actual sexual attraction, back to our ape days when you would look at someone not as a person but as a particual mate or partner to breed with, all pyscological or something, whereas fancying might just mean you like them in a all crush lovey dovey way, i could be wrong.
I just answered you on my CA post!! Finding someone sexy does not mean that I fancy them.. there are too many good looking guys around. Fancying someone is surely based on more than just looks eg-personality etc.. When I say I find someone sexy, I mean they are hot good looking guys! They might be complete ar**holes if I got to know them
I always thought it meant the same thing, except I haven't used the term fancy since I was about 11. Do people in other areas still say that?

It is still used regularly in Manchester!
I'm near Oxford, so quite a way away!
It's a common expression Stoke, where I live. I trhink you can say that someone of either sex is 'sexy', but it doesn't mean that you are personally attracted to them. I think David Beckham is sexy, but I don't fancy him, I think Victoria Beckham is sexy, and I do fancy her.

Good answer Andy. I thought they were the same thing but you've explained it the best! I still think I fancy David Beckham though!!
I believe they rae two different things - I know some very sexy people who you are just in awe of when you see them but I on't fance them. I can just recognise that they are sexy.
What other phrase would you use other than fancy?
I reckon they are exactly the same.
can you fancy someone and find them disgusting to look at?
i'd say if you took the literal meaning for fancy, i.e. "you quite like (a bit of) something", that gives the answer. fancying someone implies that you would like to act upon thoughts that someone is sexy. You can definitely find people sexy but not fancy them but I'm not sure you could find somone disgusting to look at & still fancy them, but maybe i'm shallow. to mis-quote the great Jules & Vincent from Pulp Fiction .... "Personality goes a long way". *so by that rationale, if a minger had a better personality, it would cease to be a minger?.... "Well yeah but we'd have to be talking about one charming motherf#*ing minger here"
two different things definately, the first answer was correct sexy means -'hello! looking hot' (which you might or might not choose to act upon in the short-term!) fancy on the other hand is - 'i really like you, i really want you, i know why don't you enter my world and mess it up for me!' (this is the butterfly tummy feeling) also fancy is commonly used in the west midlands, as is, by the way snog!
