How long ladder do I need?

I own a fairly average, two storey, semi-detached house.

I am not great as estimated heights etc, and need to buy an extension ladder in order to get to the gutters which need clearing out.

What length ladder should I need to get? I can find a 3-stage extension ladder that extends to 4.7m. Would this be enough?

Many thanks.

If I were you I would go for a 3,5 extending up to 6.3 metres, that is the size I have for work and find it ideal, a lot easier on the feet if you are standing on double rungs for a long period of time.Ray
Should have said the one I have is a double extension ladder
4.7m is 15'5"
Your gutters will probably be approx 18'-20' from the ground
Once you've taken the leaning angle into account, the top of the ladder will probably be about 15' (at 1 in 5) from the floor, so it's going to be a maybe. Depending on the height of your gutters, and whether the 4.7m quoted is the top of the ladder, or the top usuable step.

Thank you for all your advice. May try and get a bigger one I think as I will be cross if I still can't reach!

Thanks again.
