Our 6 year old border collie dog is toilet trained and sleeps in the porch of the house which has a doggie door but infrequently urinates on the porch. Does anyone have an idea of what may cause this poor behaviour and any ideas on how to remedy it. He's usually well behaved other than this infrequent problem. He is still entire.

If your collie is male, I reckon he is re-claiming his domain. Perhaps something else comes into your porch and leaves its scent, and your collie feel the need to also leave its message to affirm that its 'its' own territory. By entire, I reckon you mean still a full blooded male, if so thats probably the problem. Its not actually poor behaviour, its your dog protecting its home.
use a solution of 8 parts water to 4 parts citronella oil to clean the area do not overclean it as this encourages the dog to redo the offending poo, cats n dogs hate the smell of citronella and as he is only doing it territorally in one place this will be easy to stop. hope that helps good luck
forgot to mention cleaning the marked area on the floor with disenfectant or bleach products do not remove the ammonia smell of yr dog and although we cant smell it his sense of smell if approx 1000 times better than ours so he can still smell his territorial spot and will remark it every time.
